The place to b & b
BOTTOM CHAPEL
ASKRIGG
Whether you’re in Askrigg for a short break or a longer holiday you’ll never be short of things to do. And you won’t have to go far from the village to do it. Gentle or more challenging walks, hills, rivers and waterfalls: churches, teashops, restaurants and cosy pubs. There’s a village shop and newsagent, a flower shop, delicatessen  www.askriggvillagekitchen.co.uk  and pottery.

Further afield in West Witton you’ll find the award-winning Wensleydale Heifer restaurant  www.wensleydaleheifer.co.uk  for a special treat. Forbidden Corner  www.theforbiddencorner.co.uk  at Middleham, near Leyburn, is a unique experience for children and adults alike. For reasons that will become obvious when you get there, you have to book in advance by ’phone or at the tourist office in Leyburn.

Garsdale Station, less than half an hour’s drive to the west, is on the famous Settle/Carlisle railway  www.settle-carlisle.co.uk  which has great offers for days out and ideas for walks in the area.

There’s also the Wensleydale Railway  www.wensleydalerailway.com . Hawes, our nearest market town just four miles away, boasts a creamery (home of the famous Wensleydale cheese: watching it being made is more exciting than it sounds), a rope works and the Dales Museum  www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/dales_countryside_museum .

Gayle Mill, just south of Hawes, was rescued from dereliction through the BBC 'Restoration' series. It is well worth a visit. www.gaylemill.org.uk.
